In the Central Business District, just two blocks away from the French Quarter stands tall a hotel by the name International House. Decidedly hip, this 119-room hotel typifies the spirit of New Orleans today. From the fabulous front desk which is backlit to the woodwork, it is class all along. The furniture is also sui generis. Loa, the candle-lit bar named after Voodoo spirits, within this hotel takes you on cloud nine. It also houses Lemon Grass a hotel borrowing from both French and Vietnamese influences. It serves Louisiana cuisine.

Just 3 blocks away from Bourbon Street is the French Quarter hotel. It is very close to the museums, art galleries and other shops in Royal Street. Housed in a mansion, it has 51 special rooms each having its fire places and wood floors. A complimentary breakfast of continental cuisine greets the travelers. Events to watch out for in March in New Orleans Louisiana

If you are heading to [b]New Orleans Louisiana[/b] in March, keep abreast of the events happening during the month. If you thought [b]New Orleans Louisiana[/b] is restricted only for jazz buffs, think again. There are any varieties of events for one and all.

Louisiana sportsmen’s show to be held during March 9-13th is a vintage Louisiana sporting event which includes hunting, fishing and a boat show. Also showcased at this exposition will be latest collection of sport fishing gear and hunting equipment. They are on sale at discounted prices. 400 booths will be set up in the Dome floor. They include Bubba the Cajun Bull, Super Chevy Dealers Exhibit, and so on. Further information can be sought on ringing 504-832-1663.

Watch St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Louisiana flavor on March 12th. Watch marching bands, over 50 floats, bagpipers, beads etc. This parade will be painted with green shamrocks. It will begin at the junction of Hundred Oaks and South Acadian Thruway and ends near the interstate. It will be flagged off at 10:00 a.m.

Wine lovers can taste wines galore from the Napa country. Being held for the benefit of Save Our Cemeteries, it will be held on March 14th starting from six a.m. The venue is the Foundry on St.Joseph’s street.
 
Reliving Gothic past in New Orleans, Louisiana

Do you want to discover French art and architecture in the United States? If so, New Orleans, Louisiana is the place. Handsome buildings of 19th century dot the streets of French Quarter. No visit to New Orleans, Louisiana is complete without a visit here. Lovingly designed archways with amazing carvings and more can be beheld here.

The ideal place to begin a tour of this quarter is Jackson Square, a beautiful garden located between St. Ann and St. Peter Streets. Known initially as the Place d'Armes, it was the place where executions were held. Now people come here ironically for the peace and quiet exuded here.

Around the square is housed the St. Louis Cathedral which is the most  dated cathedral in the country. Presbytere  and Cabildo are also located here. They have antiques which belong to The Louisiana State Museum.  On the Decatur Street close to the square is the French Market, the oldest farmer's market in the country specializes in selling fresh seafood, fleas and other specialties of New Orleans. This market never sleeps to repeat an oft repeated cliché.

Rue Royale or the Royal Street is a posh avenue housing some Creole structures. To the north are the LaBranche House, the striking Court of Two Lions ) and The Merieult House. Further up is the Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC),  a complex of  buildings belonging to the yore.

 
Jazz it up in New Orleans, Louisiana

Are you a jazz aficionado heading to New Orleans, Louisiana? Then check out what's happening on the music front there. Every Friday in February, Park Rangers lead a walk which covers all jazz landmarks in French Quarter. From there, they will head to the Jazz Exhibit at the Old US Mint in Louisiana's state museum.  However, the walk is limited only to 25 persons. So book in advance for a nostalgic jazz trip down the lane in New Orleans, Louisiana. Or else join them for film or documentary on jazz being held there.

Among other developments on the music front is the shifting of New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. It will be relocated in Armstrong Park close to French Quarter on Rampart Street. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival or the Jazz Fest will be held ion 2005 in two segments. One will last from April 22 to 24 and the other leg will be held from April 28 to May 1. This week long festival which attracts 500,000 visitors every year also attracts craftsmen and chefs. Musicians will showcase their talent on 12 stages.

Catch the not for profit foundation of New Orleans Jazz Orchestra recreate the electrifying music of Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington and other masters. The band, which is comprised of 21 musicians, is managed by Irvin Mayfield and Ronal Markham.
